What is a Habitat ReStore?

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are building materials reuse centers, where donated new and used building materials are sold to the public at significant discounts. ReStores link those who have good quality materials they no longer need with those who could use these materials for the renovation and upkeep of their homes. Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the US and Canada operate hundreds of ReStores. They vary greatly in size and volume, ranging from those that resemble semi-annual garage sales, to a few that have annual profits of $500,000 or more. Through their sales, ReStores divert building materials from the landfill, while their proceeds help fund the building efforts of Habitat for Humanity.

The Quad Cities ReStore accepts donations of doors, windows, flooring, plumbing and electrical fixtures, cabinets and other building materials, as well as some appliances. (Click here for a list of what we accept.) Materials sold by the ReStore are donated by individuals, manufacturers, contractors and businesses in support of Habitat for Humanity. The items may be new surplus, slow moving, outdated or just gently used. Donors benefit by avoiding landfill fees, and by having their donation qualify as tax deductible, as appropriate. Buyers benefit by saving 50-75% of retail on good quality building materials.

The success of the ReStore depends on the efforts many, many people, and you can be one of them simply by DONATING, VOLUNTEERING or SHOPPING at the ReStore.

The ReStore mission is two-fold:

To provide an ongoing mechanism for diverting useable building materials from the waste stream by collecting and selling these materials to the general public; and
To provide a source of materials and funding for Habitat for Humanity-Quad Cities, to be used in support of local, national and international home building efforts
